'It is not known who first produced a wine of the claret type, but Ausonius, a fourth-century teacher of grammar, sang of its charms and virtues during the Roman occupation of Gaul. The famous Chateau Ausone comes from what is believed to be his vineyard.' (Chaplin p.68)
