The Lute of Darkness, by Sydney Matthewman. 12mo, 17.5cm, vi,14p, Leeds: At the Swan Press, Belle Vue Road, 1922.

Set in Italian Old Style and printed on wove paper. Number 11 of 250 copies (plus 20 more specially bound). Overlapping grey paper covers with a pictorial device by Violet Dinsdale on the front. Staples a little rusted, but a very good copy indeed.

An interesting copy in two respects: after the author's name on the title-page has been written "aetat 20 yrs". Upon the preliminary blank, the same hand has written "With yule-tide greetings from D.U.R. [Dorothy Una Ratcliffe] Dec.1922". The printed dedication in the book is to her. Tomkinson probably incorrectly lists this as the first Swan Press book.
