Designed by P.J.Conkwright, set in monotype Baskerville and printed atThistle Press on Curtis Rag paper. One of 1,250 and 1,000 copies respectively. Portraits, maps, illustrarations. Grey paper-covered boards, black cloth spines titled in gilt. Cockerell marbled paper-covered slipcase. John Sparrow's set with his wood-engraved book label (by RS) in both volumes. Loosely inserted a wood-engraved bookplate for Donald and Mary Hyde proofed in two colours signed by Reynolds Stone. This is used as the title-page vignette in bothvolumes. A fine set.
