The Early Years of Griffen Mill, 1986-1998. By Christine Laver-Gibbs. First edition, 8vo, 44pp. + samples, The Alembic Press, Marcham, 1999.
Number 70 of 100 (120) copies set in Garamond and printed in black (with a woodcut in reddish-brown) on a special making of Griffen Mill paper. 12 tipped-in paper samples (some full-page). Quarter brown cloth with printed Griffen Mill boards and Genet endpapers, printed spine label. A fine copy.
Griffen Mill has a unique reputation for the production of specialist hand-made papers for conservators and binders. The text recounts the history of the Mill, and describes some of the technical problems and how they were solved for specific papers. An attractive book, though marred by a couple of literals.
