One of 500 copies. Frontispiece, 4-page letterpress facsimile of 3rd August 1699 News-Letter, 5 tipped in collotype illustrations (2pp. & 4pp.) and illustrations in the text. Original brown cloth, gilt and stamped in gilt, printed paper dust-jacket (a bit worn at the head of the spine). A very good copy, inscribed by Beatrice Warde.
Morison gives many particulars of the career of Thomas Dawks I and Thomas Dawks II, chronicles the career in printing of Ichabod Dawks, his establishment as a newspaper-man and the issue of 'Dawks's News-letter' in 1686. The latter was composed in a new cursive type cut for the exclusive use of the 'News-Letter'.
