Oscar Wilde: A House of Pomegranates. The design & decoration of this book by C.Ricketts and C.H.Shannon. First edition, square 8vo, 22cm, pp.[x],158, London: Osgood, McIlvaine & Co, 1891.
One of 1,000 copies printed. Binding by Charles Ricketts in half green cloth, white clth covers stamped in gilt and orange. Pale olive endpapers with a design of quail and sheaves of corn, signed CR. Four plates reproducing woodcuts by Charles Shannon in faint detail (the process for these "invisible illustrations" was carried out in Paris and was a failure). 12 illustrations and numerous decorations designed by Ricketts. Neat ownership inscription. Some general wear, endpapers carefully strengthened with tissue, but a very nice bright copy of a book from the heyday of art nouveau.
