A.C. Swinburne. Lucretia Borgia: The Chronicle of Tebaldeo Tebaldei (Renaissance Period). Foreword, Commentary and Notes by Randolph Hughes. Engravings by Reynolds Stone. Small folio, pp.191, 4pp note + fly-title + 8pp collotypes, Printed and published for the first time, by The Golden Cockerel Press, London, 1942.

Number 221 of 320 (350) copies printed in Poliphilus types on specially watermarked Arnold & Foster mould-made paper and illustrated with seven wood-engravings by Reynolds Stone. Full bound in white canvas with gilt spine lettering, upper board blocked in gilt with a device, top edge gilt, others uncut. A fine copy.

The Foreword and Chronicle were printed in 14-point Poliphilus, the Commentary and Notes in double column in 10-point. However, the book was first est up in 1940 in 16-point and hence the engravings do not quite fit the page. A double-page spread of what the book "might have been in happier times" is included in the note at the rear and makes an interesting comparison. Reynolds Stone's engravings are also out of his usual style. Despite all this, a successful book.
