Engraved title-page and 34 numbered copper-engraved plates. The number of monograms totals more than 2,300. On plate 5, which bears the "Alphabet Enlace a l'Anglaise", there is the date 1811. This may be the date of the first edition. Modern quarter grey buckram lettered in gilt down the spine, marbled paper boards, red, white and gold. Some browning, some leaves affected by damp, edges chipped. Even so, an attractive book.
Scarce. Plate 32 reproduces three monograms designed by Armand Desmarests and engraved by Charpentier in 1695, and three composed by Nicolas Verien, an engraver active in 1725. Plate 33 is an enjoyable double page of allegorical figures; plate 34 bears the last will and testament of Louis XVI in the smallest of engraved lettering.
