The Inland Printer. A Technical Journal devoted to the art of printing. Volume XXI. April 1898 to September, 1898. 4to, vi[2], 784 pages, inserted plates, 29cm, Chicago, Illinois, The Inland Printer Company, Publishers (1898).
Heavily illustrated with black-and-white and colour reproductions, portraits and lithographic plates. Occasional use of different paper stocks. Notable display items and advertisements include: Fine Printing Inks, by Ault & Wilbourg, New York, and a spectacular lithography using the same by Earhart & Richardson, Cin., others by Harker, Cin., Kelmscott Series and Bradley Outline (and others) by ATF, Nestor Scripts by Barnhart Bros., Okie High Grade Inks, Electric City Engraving ('Finest half-tones, Lowest prices') Sheridan's paper cutters,, Sprague electrical motors, etc. Half purple morocco, gilt, with pebbled cloth sides, extremities worn, hinges a bit damaged but holding. Almost a very good copy.
Much on half-tone printing, stereotyping, proper use of the Linotype, process engraving, photo-engraving. The sinking of the USS Maine and the Spainish-American War feature more than one might imagine in a trade journal of this kind, but that is to reckon without the Yankee ability to make a dollar. Stock blocks of the Maine are available and there is a fine plate of the USS Michigan.
