Set in Monotype Bell and printed at Cambridge University Press on a mould-made J. Whatman paper. Portrait frontispiece, 14 other inserted plates, other drawings in the text. Rust cloth with gilt spine titling. Ownership signature of Rigby Graham. A very good copy.

William Balston was the apprentice of the paper-maker James Whatman (1741-98). He founded Springfield Mill in 1806 with the determination to make the finest and most durable white papers in the world.
